Claire Musings

On the way to work this morning, Claire asked if when she was in my tummy, and I went to the hostipal, did the doctor have to cut her out of me with a knife?  I said no, that sometimes that happens, but I pushed really really REALLY hard and that's how she came out.  Then she wanted to know did I cry?  So I said yeah, I cried after it was over.  Then she wanted to know exactly how I cried, like this?  Or like this?  (One example was loud, eyes closed, one example was more sad.)  So then I had to reenact exactly how I cried after she came out of me.  Then I told her daddy cried too, and did a reenactment of his crying face.  She seemed satisfied with that.

Girl of Many Words

When Claire is throwing a fit I offer her 3 remedies - a nap, some protein, or a hug - she usually accepts the hug.  And lately she's been telling me she loves me, without me saying it first.  Like the other day we were laying in her bunk bed and she was on the top, and she says, "Mom?"  I'm like yeah.  "I love you."  Then she throws down her foot and says, "Can you massage me?"  So obviously she's very affectionate.

The best however, was in the car last night.  We were on our way home from the grocery store and I had just bought her a $0.99 cupcake, super special because it came with a plastic ring.  And she's holding it, and she says, "Mom?"  Yeah?  "I love you sooooooo much, you are my best friend, and if I was a killer I wouldn't kill you...because I don't want you to die."  Gee, thanks kiddo.  Right back at ya.

Lightning

There's a Rihanna song called "This is What you Came For."  Claire loves this song.

The lyrics are something like:
"Lightning.  This is what you came for.  Lightning.  Strikes every time she moves."

And Claire sings along at the top of her lungs.  The other day I heard her singing it in her room, and when I went closer to get video (stalker alert) she was singing,
"Lightning, this is what you came for.  Lightning.  Triceratops can move."

SHE WAS SINGING TRICERATOPS.

I couldn't get video because I died.

Claire Got Her Ears Pierced

Every time DP and Claire are at the outlet mall, he asks her if she would like to get her ears pierced, and she always says, "No thank you."  (I can just picture that.)  He said last time they went, she got up on the chair to have it done and then changed her mind at the last minute.  This time I was there, and when he asked her if she'd get them done, she agreed but he was skeptical.  I wasn't though, I knew she'd do it, I could just tell.  And she did.  My little girl was so brave!  And I'm SO proud of her.

They had two gals do it at the same time which was genius.  Claire teared up after the earrings went in, and of course I did too.  Significantly moreso than her.  There were a couple of ladies who approached me later to ask if she was okay, you could tell they were moms too, they sympathized with me.  Meanwhile Claire got a sucker and then got to pick out a necklace so she was fine.  She picked out one for Gigi and one for Fiori too.

Here she is with the brightest and most glittery earrings she could get.

Ghostbusters

I knew I wanted to see the new Ghostbusters movie on opening night.  As a child of the 80's, the song alone invokes feelings of nostalgia, and with a savage all-female cast, I was excited that it was something I could share with my daughter.  Of course when I told DP I was taking her last Thursday night, he decided he wanted to come too.

Claire was super excited, she loves going to the cinema and she bought Oreos and a blue slushie at the concession.  And I'm happy to report that she loved the movie.  She kept whispering to me, "Mom they are GOOD girls!"  I guess that's opposed to bad guys?  It was cute.  And most people smiled at her when we walked in and when we left.  Not sure if I was expecting to get grief about taking my 3 year old to see that movie but to know Claire is to know she favours more gory/dark/scary stuff.  On the way out we passed a billboard for Suicide Squad and she asked if we could see that next weekend.  I can see why too, they made it look cartoon-y.  And she likes Harley Quinn.  But we'll probably wait for it to come out on RedBox, I know our limits.

Aaaaaaaaaand, I must be back to the blog.  I just wrote a wall of text about a movie.

Summer

It's been a full and busy summer.  Gigi had spent most nights at my house until she went to Seattle for two weeks.  We miss her terribly, but I haven't cried the way I used to in the past when the kids left for an extended period of time.  I had a nightmare about Ramses, last night in fact, so my heart is hurting, but it's been easy to just keep myself busy.

I've been running 5 miles every other day on my treadmill.  We use the shit out of our Wet n Wild season passes so that's a motivating factor.  In addition, each of us has been sick at least twice, I went to a Garth Brooks concert, DP took Claire on her first jetski ride in Laughlin, and Sully came back home after having run away over a year ago.  Whew!

So yeah, it's been really fun.  You'll see from the pictures, Claire dresses herself these days.  When she's not wearing her floor-length Chinese dress, she likes to mix and match patterns.  She is also a fan of long sleeves.  I just kind of roll with it.
