It stormed all last weekend and off and on throughout the week.

So we stayed inside.  And everyone got a little case of cabin fever.

The kids went nuts being cooped up like that.  Claire kind of got a little crazy too.

Little Bit of Everything

Let me go ahead and catch you up.  After Claire's birthday party weekend extravaganza, I worked 3 days then took off with her to visit family in Vancouver.

We went to my cousin's baby shower.  It was an Alice in Wonderland theme.  I took absolutely no pictures because I suck.  And it was lovely and my cousin was lovely and I'm so excited for Claire's new baby cousin, Phoenix.

Speaking of cousins, Claire met one of her cousins for the very first time.  And wouldn't you know, it was totally squeal-worthy.  Especially for MY cousin and I, both meeting our respective nieces for the first time.  Of course the girls didn't even really notice each other except when my daughter tried to "cuddle" with the baby.  It was cute, but I was semi terrified.  My little monster.

Claire, Jen, me, and Adley
Claire had a blast in Vancouver.  After we got home, I had a week off from work, and I actually spent it dinking around the house.  We stayed up too late watching tv.  I went for leisurely runs and had breakfast at my dad's every day.  Basically just did a whole lot of nothing.  And it was perfect.  I have decided I'm going to do this every year at the end of summer.

Miss Piggy

I've been a steady 5 lbs. over my weight since summer started.  I tell people I haven't been running because of the hundred degree temperatures, but that's just an excuse.  I spend such long days at work that the last thing I want to do when I get home, is leave again.  And on weekends I invent things that need to get done so I don't go to the gym.  Or I'll be nice and let DP go first, then when he's gone I crack a beer so when he gets back, oops I can't go now.  Or I'll take the baby to my mom's with all intention of running at the apartment, but then raid my mom's fridge and eat all of their leftover from the past week at one sitting, rendering me useless.

Then in order to account for my additional 5 pounds, I had committed to the fact that hey, it's really not that much.  Maybe instead of being 5 pounds over my regular weight, this can be my regular weight!  I mean, I'm happy right?

I saw a picture of myself from Claire's birthday party.  I had just eaten 6ish slices of pizza and I was a tad embarrassed to put it up, but it was the only picture of myself from that day.  I can't be one of those to behind-the-camera moms, Claire needs to share the spotlight!  So of course, I am going to put it up anyway.

My spare tire.
I eat well.  Technically.  But I eat A LOT.  You know those portion control pictures where it's a plate and a palm-size piece of fish and a golfball-size serving of rice with a cup of boiled veggies on the side?  Well I eat sort of like that.  But I like sauce, and double the amount of rice, and my veggies cooked in butter.  I also like seconds.  And beer.

When I got on the scale this morning, I had gained an additional 2 pounds from the weekend of partying.  So I decided that I'm going to get serious about this because letting it go just opens the door for me to keep letting it go.  I don't want to be comfortable at 7 lbs. over my regular weight.  Or 10.  The time is now!

New Toys

We opened all of Claire's gifts at the park, but she was totally uninterested.  After we got home that night though, DP took 3 toys out of the boxes and we put everything together.  When she came down the next morning, it was like Christmas.  And she was SO excited.  Running from toy to toy, turning it all on, pressing all the buttons, dancing to the music.  She was delirious!
Claire stayed up for about an hour before heading up for her nap.  Probably because she wore herself with all that playing.  Her second time coming down was the same, only she stayed up for a lengthy 2 hours.  It thrilled me to see Claire so happy.

Claire Bear Party

Family started coming in on Thursday, so in reality, that's when the party started.  By the time Saturday rolled around, I was exhausted and Claire was cranky.  But the birthday party went off without a hitch.

After two late nights of eating and drinking, the 3 of us slept in on Saturday until 9am.  I woke up and put the finishing touches on my jello shots and the cake before heading out to reserve a picnic area at the park.  I wish I had thought to get pictures of both before I left the house, because they looked amazing in the artificial light.  Especially the jello!

Rainbow Twizzlers!
On the way to the venue, my worst nightmare came true.  The cake toppled over in the car.  The candy came apart and their were marshmallows everywhere.  I was devastated.  Dale didn't say a word, probably because I was on the verge of coming unhinged.

But I got over it pretty quickly.  I was excited for DP and Claire to see the area I reserved.  My cousin and I had gone there at 1pm and painstakingly decorated the best picnic spot in the whole park.  There were 4 large, covered tables, and it was situated between the splash pad and the playground.

Our whole party space.

Close up of the crepe paper rainbow and favour buckets.

It had taken us a couple of hours since we assembled the favour buckets there as well.  The Gatorades were warm but I didn't care, it was for aesthetic!  The kids loved the whistles the best out of everything in there anyway.  And little did I know, while we were there, Dale was at home filling water balloons.

My homemade Gatorade labels.
Water balloons for days!
We ordered 15 pizzas from Cici's and everyone came, drank, and had a good time.  The kids played so much.  And the party was supposed to go from 4-6 but we didn't end up leaving there until 8:30.  I definitely think it was a success and was thrilled with how everything turned out.  I wish I got more pictures but you know how it is, spending the whole party visiting and making memories took precident over photos.

Isn't He Lovely?

"He's so cute!"
"How old is he?"
"What a sweet boy."

Never fails.  In the baby fashion world, pink dresses and tutus are for girls and t-shirts are for boys.  So if I put Claire in a t-shirt, which I do most days, people assume she's a boy.  I just roll with it.  I'm used to it.  My baby was born bald after all.

The other day we were in the liquor store at Walmart (I know, I know) and the gap-toothed yokel behind me in line was all, "Just wait 'til he turns 16!"  I didn't know what in tarnation he was referring to since in 'Merica one needs to be 21 to purchase alcohol.  Then I thought maybe he was talking to someone else because my daughter was wearing a halter top.  It was green, sure, but it was a HALTER top.  Since Cletus over here seemed like the kind of guy who would balk at a little boy having any kind of gender ambiguity, why would he have assumed my little boy was dressing in drag?  Anyway, I just chuckled politely and told him to have a great day.

Ok she does look rather boy-ish in this picture...

Care Bears Countdown

Here are some of the things we have ready for Claire's birthday party on Saturday.

Décor:  My cousin Caity ordered our piñata all the way up in Vancouver, and it was delivered yesterday.  Now it's a party!  I got the plates, napkins, and tablecloths from Walmart, and the streamers from Party City.  Everything was under a dollar a piece.

Dessert:  We are having pizza for the main course, and chips & fruit as the sides, so all I have to worry about is the cake.  Claire's Aunt Trudy got her a fabulous CB cake topper, so now I need to step up my game as far as the cake is concerned.  I got jello which I'm going to layer in plastic cups, sort of cupcake-inspired, and top with whipped cream.  Also, I spied rainbow Twizzlers at Walmart like 4 months ago and had to snap them up.  It's my favourite candy plus hello, have you ever seen them in different colours?  I have to find a creative way to incorporate them.

Favours:  I finally finished the buckets. I actually had to stop myself because I kept thinking of cool stuff to put in them.  In each one is a bottle of Gatorade, a box of theatre candy, bubbles, a whistle, and a bouncy ball.  We have one more thing to add, everyone gets a water balloon, and we're set.  I really wanted the kids to be able to use everything (including the bucket itself) at the park if they wanted to, so I think it turned out well.
This is Claire's party outfit.  I ordered her a Care Bears swimsuit from the 80's and it finally came!  (No, seriously, I got this for $1.99 bid on eBay.)

This is Not a Joke

Now that I am days away from Claire's first birthday party, and everything is in order and ready to go, I have been LOOKING AT HALLOWEEN COSTUMES FOR THE BABY.

Are you kidding me with this?!  No, I am not.  Help me.

Look, I had Claire's baptism invitations designed and the date picked before I even went on maternity leave.  I sent out the save-the-date with her birth announcement on the actual day she was born.  I planned the menu, the décor, the church stuff, and our outfits, everything to a T, until the day of her baptism came and went.  After a relaxing 2 months of recovery, I immediately threw myself into her birthday party planning.  It evolved from a Fiesta (hello Margaritas) to a "C is for Claire" theme, featuring a Cookie bar and other Crap.  But our guest list grew and with Claire becoming mobile, our house got smaller.  A party at a park was more up our alley, and after I came across that Care Bears swimsuit on eBay, duh, our theme was born.

You guys, I have a problem.  I'm crazy and obsessive and can't stop planning.  Last Halloween was easy because of course she would be Spiderman.  But with great power comes great responsibility, and it wouldn't be very responsible of me to be dressing my daughter in Spiderman costumes every year.  Since he's a dude and all.

I'm also beginning to brainstorm some ideas for her 2nd birthday party.  We can do either a red and white 'vintage baseball' theme for our little ANGEL, or a Michael Jackson party for our PYT.  I can predict which way we end up going if I let my husband have a vote.  But shamon - Black or White cookies, veggies and Neverland Ranch dip, a King of Popcorn machine, and of course, a piñata labeled Beat It.  It's just too awesome.
Or Dangerous
Will You Be There?
Ok stop.
