Claire Waves Goodbye

Claire waved to me yesterday!  Her Uncle Mikey had taught her on Monday, briefly, and wouldn't you know she picked it up right away.  So of course we had to put her on video.

(My body reproportioned itself since being pregnant and I haven't bought new running clothes yet.  I don't look this horrid in regular life, I promise!)

I got DP a BBQ for Christmas, and now that the weather is nice, him and Mike put it up so we can enjoy our backyard.  It only took a couple of days.  Heh.

I do need to say though, my husband is pretty amazing on the grill.

We had Rishi and the kids over, and Dale put up some carne asada.  I'm really glad spring has hit the valley.  And I'm especially glad that Lent is over next week so I can start enjoying a cold beer with my grilled meat.

Chuck E. Cheese

Claire went to her first birthday part at Chuck E. Cheese's today.  I wasn't feeling well so I jumped at the opportunity to stay home and take a nap.  And not just because the thought of that germ-infested noise factory sounded like hell.  I guess some things don't change.

I dressed Claire up in her prettiest spring dress and Hello Kitty shoes.  Of course, she was the belle of the ball!  Dale said that he felt like a piece of meat with everyone stopping him to compliment the baby.  Ooooookay.

Plenty of Fish

DP wanted me to go fishing with him, so in a show of good faith, I went.
To Sunset Park.  A man-made pond.
Where they put the fish in there for you.
How bad could it be?

He ended catching 3 rainbow trout, which we had to throw back because we forgot to bring a cooler.  What we didn't forget though, was KFC hot wings and potato wedges for mine and Claire's picnic.  It turned out to be a pretty great time!

Mary Jane Falls

My husband told the kids that every weekend we are going to have a Family Outing and do something fun.  Massive eyeroll.  So this weekend, he decided we were going to Mt. Charleston for a hike.  Who made him the king?!

Last time I went to Mt. Charleston for this hike, I was 32 weeks pregnant and huge.  It's 1,100 feet and just over a mile and a half to the top.  I wasn't so sure the kids would make it but I thought, well at least they'd have fun trying.  (They didn't.)

7 months pregnant
With my 7-month old baby

They started complaining right after we parked and Dale made them all use the restroom.  Ok, it was nasty, it's a national park, but these kids are babies!  Then on the trek to the base of the trail, which was about 500 ft. they were all hungry and needed "power" from the Lunchables we brought.  So we rested and they ate.  Then they ate almost a whole bag of jalapeno chips.  Nice.  Once we hit the trail, they were tired, and their feet hurt, and how much longer do we have to go?  The path winds, but once they figured out they could rock-climb from the trail to a higher part of the trail (AKA cheat) they were pretty happy.  Then they saw snow and our typical Vegas kids would have spent hours playing in a frozen puddle if we didn't drag them along.

We saw a frozen waterfall, so that was pretty cool.  I made them all go inside it.  It was melting from the top and there was water falling over the edge.  I told the kids to fill up their water bottles and they thought was hilarious.  But hey, it's fresh mountain water.  Isn't that what is supposedly in a bottle of Arrowhead?  Hmmmmm.

Dale carried Claire down the mountain and I got to carry the empty backpack.  So I win.

Claire Slept Thru the Nite

(My mom spells those words like this and I like how it looks.)

Anyway, so since Claire has been sleeping in her own room, we have our little routine for going to bed.  I take her upstairs and change her diaper then we close the blinds.  I feed her a bottle then give her a pacifier, then rock her for a bit before putting her down.  Sometimes she's still awake.  In any case, I shut the door behind me to give her a chance to fall all the way to sleep.  This happens at about 6pm, and when I go to bed around 8pm, I open her bedroom door back up and shut my bedroom door, and her dad is on duty.  She fusses/cries a few times during the night, around midnight then around 3, and I go in there and lovingly rock her back to sleep.  We wake up at 5am, she has a bath and goes down for a nap when I leave for work at 6:30.

Well last night, I forgot to open her door back up, and when DP came to bed, he closed our bedroom door behind him.  And wouldn't you know, Claire slept through the night!

Or so I'd like to think.  It's probably shitty that I didn't hear her crying out for me (probably twice) but now I know she can put herself back to sleep in the middle of the night, by herself.  She ended up sleeping in until 6am, and woke up smiling and talking to herself, so it couldn't have scarred her THAT badly!

Claire's First Swim

It's 80 degrees out, and I wanted to take advantage of the pool at my parents' apartment complex.  They haven't even moved in yet, but our version of spring doesn't last very long, so after the kids came home from school, I took them with Claire.  I don't have any pictures of the kids because they declared it "too cold" and hung out in the hot tub the whole time.

So there are 3 adjoining pools, you can kind of see in the picture.  (My parents' apartment is in this picture too but I'm not going to point it out because there are crazy people out there.)  The middle pool is 3' and the pools on the sides are like 3" and perfect for Claire.  I started out by sitting on the edge and having Claire stand in between my legs.  She's so funny, she stood like that for a minute, then she slowly started trying to sit down in the water.  Next thing you know, she's crawling all over the place.

She wasn't very happy when I took her out!

My Sweet Tooth

B.C. (Before Claire) I was your typical carb-fiending runner.  Shrimp chips were my weakness, and my favourite snacks were cheese & crackers, popcorn, and Doritos.  And fried anything.

When I got pregnant with Claire, because she was made up of Dale's genetics and the little parasite had taken over my body, I adopted many of his traits.  His smell (yuck!) and his sweet tooth.

Well A.C. my sweet tooth never went away.  It sucks because now I'm all about Lofthouse cookies and crap like that.  Doughnuts.  And Twizzlers.  Lots and lots of Twizzlers.

It makes me sad.  And I gained five pounds of holiday weight because of it.

But the good news is that I ran over 4 miles the last time I went out.  And that's the first time I made it over 3 since I was 6 months pregnant!  So maybe I'll lose the extra weight and can keep eating sugar.  Maybe.

Feeding the Ducks

This weekend, we had a lovely day at Sunset Park.  The weather was gorgeous.  Almost hot.  So we picked up the kids, let them pick out some picnic food, bought some bread to feed the ducks, and headed out for a day of fun.  They had a blast!
