Bigger Family = Bigger Car

We did it.  We upgraded.  We decided the time had come to add a small-size SUV to our expanding family.  After much back & forth, we headed over to the Volkswagen dealership and got ourselves a brand new (well, 2010 model) Tiguan!  It's freaking awesome.

Stock photo, obviously.
We don't live in San Francisco.  Yet.

35 Weeks

Baby is the size of a coconut.

Weight: 149 - I've gained 24 lbs. total.

Belly: Baby Claire is running out of room.  She is hanging out on my bladder and kicks her feet out at the top of my stomach.  It's slightly amusing, and slightly terrifying.

Cravings:  Lemonade.

Aversions:  Food.

Exercise: Does running from my car to the building to avoid the heat count?

Doctor's Appointments: I had a routine appointment on Thursday and my stomach is measuring right on schedule. The doc estimates Claire will be born at 7 and a half pounds. I also had a 3-D ultrasound on Friday that my mom kindly paid for.  I was totally creeped out to do this, but boy am I glad I did.  Baby is already 5 lbs. and yes, still a girl.

Claire

Symptoms: More of the same.  I'm also fatigued and slightly grumpy.  I had a short bout of vertigo, which sucked for sleeping this weekend.

Best Moments: Claire's room is finally complete and all her stuff is ready for her to get here.  I'm 35 weeks along with 35 days to go!

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.

What I Miss: Deep breaths.

End of Days Awsomeness

My husband's side of the family threw us a baby shower in Temecula, CA.  My parents, Gigi, and I drove down there on Friday morning and Dale came up with his brother on Saturday morning.  I wish I could make a separate post about it but the idea is so daunting (who thought I'd ever get to lazy to sit at my computer?) because it was truly amazing.  There was whole dining table full of salad fixings.  Yeah I mentioned the food first.  DP's whole family was there except for one cousin who was out of town for work, but I seriously don't think I've ever been at a family function where there was 96% attendance.  It just goes to show how much they love us and especially my husband.  I think he needed that attention for the day.  It was cute seeing him in his glory, he just kind of bounced around with a big smile on his face, ever the proud dad.

Proud parents-to-be

Last Saturday, my mom and went to the spa at SouthPoint Casino for a couple hours of relaxation.  She had some aromatherapy treatment and I had a pre-natal massage.  There was an attachment for the top of the massage table that had a soft cushion right in the middle for my belly.  As soon as I laid face-down, it was like I wasn't pregnant anymore.  It was so relaxing and for the second time in my pregnancy, I felt like myself again.

The massage therapist told me that the extra weight in my thighs was all water so I shouldn't worry.  It kind of made me feel good but then creeped out because we weren't having any conversation AND who thefuck comments on a woman's body?  But THEN I figured he was just trying to be nice and probably DID know what he was talking about so I came home and told DP that my big legs were all water weight.

I have been slowly putting up everything we have been given for Claire.  I put up the crib early on, but since my two showers, I've put up a swing, the playpen, her change table, and Gigi helped me put together her carseat and stroller system.  Her stuff is taking over.  We have baby crap strewn about the house, it's kinda neat, just waiting for a baby to make it complete.

Playpen with all the bells & whistles

Swing
I baked my husband a very labour-intensive cake on Father's Day.  I also got him a tablet so he could stop using my laptop and a onesie that says "My Daddy Loves Me" or something like that.  And he got flowers.  I think he made out pretty good if you ask me.

We ended up picking up all the kids and surprising my own dad with them for a day of hanging out.  My dad said it was the best Father's Day present he could ask for.

34 Weeks

Baby is the size of a butternut squash.

Weight: 147 lbs.  Total gain of 22.

Belly: Tons of movement.  It makes me nauseous sometimes.

Cravings:  Coffee, beer, wine, tequila.  You get the drift?

Aversions:  Fast food, or anything that looks filling.

Exercise: I don't even walk around the house anymore.  If I have to go upstairs for something, I stay up there until bed time.  It's too hard.

Doctor's Appointments: I have a routine check-up on Thursday.

Symptoms: I'm sweaty allthetime.com.  Dale says now I know how it feels to be an obese person, this is what they go through on the regular.  Besides being sweaty, I'm also short of breath (Claire is still pretty high in my stomach) and achy in my lower back and glutes.  I really feel for people who are overweight and have a new appreciation for what they go through.  Carrying around this extra weight is no joke.

Best Moments:  Claire's reactions to her dad's voice.

What I Miss: See cravings list.  Also, bikinis.

3rd Tri Update

You've probably noticed I haven't been posting as frequently as I was before.  I'm just so freaking lazy all the time.  Not tired, exactly - although I would kill for an uninterrupted 6 hours of sleep in a row - but I just want to lay around all the time.

You guys can all feel sorry for my husband because up until yesterday, I hadn't cooked a meal in 3 weeks.  I hadn't cleaned a damn thing in the house either.  I also have 2 loads of laundry sitting on my dryer.  Dale has done all the cooking, cleaning (well he did that before anyway, but I at least picked up occasionally), and bringing me stuff when I'm sitting in my recliner.  Mainly coke and chips but that's neither here nor there.  Yesterday I defrosted a chicken and made it along with some rice, I swear he looked like he'd won the lotto.  Poor guy.

In the effort of full disclosure, he brings me surprise virgin bloody marys from the casino and makes filet mignon for me even though I have to tell him to cook it to passed pink since I shouldn't really be eating raw meat.  He's very excited for Claire to get here and that's super cute.

When we thought we were having a boy, my husband walked around with his chest puffed out for 3 months.  He talked a lot about baseball and dirt bikes.  (WTF?)  But now since finding out we're having a girl, it's been a totally different experience.  He's become so protective and gentle, almost to a fault.  Do you know he told me he doesn't want Claire to play sports?  Hello, do you know who her mother is?  I'm taking her to a 49ers game at 5 months old (don't worry, in a dome) so of course she's going to like sports.

Anyway, updates on my third trimester are mostly negative.  I'm hot, sweaty, swollen, huge, sore, and uncomfortable.  I try not to complain but sometimes it just comes spewing out.  The positives are that I feel Claire moving around a ton more now that she's running out of room, but even that's a negative because sometimes it makes me sick to my stomach.  I've had a few Braxton Hicks contractions (the fake kind) and while exciting, they are crippling.

33 Weeks

Baby is the size of a durian.  (WTF is that?)

Weight: A whopping 147 pounds!  I've gained 22 lbs. total.

Belly: Big and sore all over.

Cravings:  None.

Aversions:  None.

Exercise: Screw that.

Doctor's Appointments: At my last one, the doctor said the baby is upside down.

Symptoms: I sneezed & peed.  Just a little.  But still.  Also, I went to the gas station for some candy and when I couldn't find any Twizzlers, I cried.  Right there in the candy aisle of the damn Green Valley Grocery.

Best Moments:  Dale and I had a co-ed baby shower thrown by his side of the family in Temecula, CA.  It was very precious and I'm glad my husband got to experience that part of having a baby on the way.

What I Miss: Not being irritated all the time.  I'm even irritated by myself.

32 Weeks

Baby is the size of a squash.

Weight: 144 lbs. (19 total.)

Belly: Large and in charge.  I think Claire is already facing downward because I feel a lot of kicking up in the high stomach area.

Cravings: Doughnuts and eggs.

Aversions: Fast food.

Exercise: I walked a 3-mile loop on Monday, then got lazy for the rest of the week.  But this weekend, Dale and I went for a drive out to Mt. Charleston and we hiked up to Mary Jane Falls.  It's a mile & a half each way, steep and rocky.  Probably not the smartest idea but I felt fine while I was doing it.  Plus everyone we passed felt like a douche-extreme for complaining about the trek.  That was definitely empowering.

Doctor's Appointments: I have a check up on Thursday.

Symptoms: Sore heels from carrying all this extra weight.  I also have a lot of pressure on my lower stomach, especially when I wear shorts.  Maybe because I'm still wearing running shorts and non-maternity shorts like a dummy.

Best Moments: Having Mama and Aunty Carol here.  They literally sat on the floor of my house for hours helping me take the tags of tiny baby outfits and painstakingly hang them all up.  They let me talk about the baby nonstop and acted excited/interested.  And they indulged my every whim and didn't let me lift a finger for anything.  Claire is so damn lucky to have those two!

What I Miss: Everything.
